OVGU is in great shape! - Around the world in 21 days

The Kiplin Challenge has come to a successful end at the end of April. OVGU had set itself the goal of walking 7,823 km - a distance that connects the campuses of all partner universities in the EU-GREEN Alliance. After just one week, the staff and students had already achieved this goal. Almost 400 members of OVGU collected so many steps within three weeks that they covered more than five times the distance of all our partner universities! Together they walked 42,801 km, with the 2,490 participants from the other 6 participating universities even 279,398 km.

The winners of the Kiplin Challenge were announced at the ABC Bicycle Challenge kick-off event on June 3. The team "Die laufenden Nasen" (The Runny Noses) took first place with flying colors. "GREEN TEAM WP Achterbahn" also made it onto the podium with a close second place and team "Irgendwas mit Digitalisierung" (Something about Digitalization) in third place.

How do we want to live and work in the future?

The Tomorrow Labs Festival on June 8, 2024 from 16:00 to 21:00 in Magdeburg's Wissenschaftshafen (Port of Science) will focus on the question 'How do we want to live and work in the future?'

Alongside music, experiments and discussions, science centers, universities and innovative companies will address the topics of health, technology, the environment and society in four 'labs'. EU GREEN will be represented at OVGU's Market of Opportunities.

Futurehead lectures and Soapbox Science presentations are the main events of the afternoon and evening. They offer in-depth insights into innovative and forward-looking topics in compact 20-minute slots. Each lecture includes an interactive Q&A session where you can get in direct contact with the experts and ask questions.

The Soapbox Science presentations are designed to present exciting scientific findings and innovations within 10 minutes. This is the right place for anyone who wants to learn a lot in a short space of time and get to know inspiring ideas and the people behind them!

There will also be many different workshops and interactive activities.

Limitless: Your perspective on diversity and inclusion at OVGU

For the 12th German Diversity Day on May 28, 2024, we are organizing a photo competition together with the Equal Opportunities & Diversity Network on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 10 "Reduced Inequalities".
The motto of the competition is "Limitless: Your perspective on diversity and inclusion at OVGU". There are no limits to the creative implementation.
All students, employees or people otherwise associated with OVGU are welcome to submit entries.

The closing date for entries is 18.06.2024.

The winning photos are expected to take part in an EU GREEN-wide photo competition in October 2024. All submitted photos will also be published on the OVGU and EU GREEN websites.
In addition, prizes include participation in the temporary exhibition of all works selected by the jury, high-quality prints of the photos, vouchers for CEWE photo books and the OVGU merchandise shop.

Important notes:

• A maximum of 2 photos per author can be submitted.
• Submissions should be sent by email to (please state your full name and status (student, member of staff, guest student, etc.))
• The photos must correspond to the proposed theme, be original and unpublished and may not have already been awarded or exhibited in another competition.
• Please name the file as the author's last name_first name
• File format JPG, file size 2 to max. 10 MB per image, long edge max. 4000 pixels

How to develop joint educational programmes through excellent research clusters?

Work Package 3 Research will meet at the Atlantic Technical University in Ireland from June 17th - 19th for a Research Week. One focus will be on preparing the Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) together with Work Package 6 Mobility. Ideas for this have already been collected in advance and will now be planned and developed in more detail. In addition, new ideas for cooperation and interdisciplinarity between the research clusters are to be developed and how these can further be implemented into future study programs.

Especially researchers already involved and interested in the 6 research clusters are warmly invited to the WP 3 Research Week!

Travel costs will be covered by the project funds.

Joint Degrees, SDGs und EU GREEN priciples

From June 25 - 27, WP 2 Education will meet in Évora, Portugal for its second Staff Week. In addition to a meeting of the Student Council, a wide range of topics are on the agenda. Central topics will be the selection of joint degrees from previously submitted and presented pilot degrees as well as the introduction of the Sustainability Minor. This will also include discussions about challenges in the implementation of joint European degree programs and how our EU GREEN educational principles can best be embedded in them. Train-the-trainer workshops will also be held to align curricular units with the SDGs and key competencies for sustainability.

A small excursion and a Portuguese crash course are also planned as part of the social program.
